We did a final walk through of our house on Friday, before closing, to check for any frozen pipes or other issues. But mostly frozen pipes. Since New York has not messed around when it comes to freezing cold temps this winter.
All was well.
We were in and out of the house all weekend, Caleb started ripping up carpet, I started telling him to prepare his heart for all the subway tile that would need to be laid.
Tonight, on his way home from work, Caleb swung by the house to get our mail. We may have mail going to three addresses right now, I am not even sure. When he went inside, much to his surprise, water was flowing EVERYWHERE on the lower level. I mean, it was a full out waterfall, disintegrating ceiling tiles right and left. I walked in and my eyes started welling with tears when I heard it. Two pipes had frozen and burst on the lower level and our new house was filled with 2+ feet of energized water. Energized water, aka, you will probably die if you enter it. We were at the house about two hours with the fire department before the electric company could arrive to shut off everything so we could make the water stop. It had been flowing so hard, probably for hours and hours.
All was no longer well.
THANKFUL: That Caleb stopped by, who knows what would have happened if he hadn’t. That the water is finally off. That this was the basement level. That we weren’t living there. For the firemen who came and started to pump right away, bringing in extra hoses and extra guys. For the friends who showed up to help out. For my girl gang of prayer warriors who, when they say they are going to pray, I know they stop what they are doing and pray right then and there. They text me things like this “Therefore no matter what you face this year, God will be doing 10,000 things in your life that you cannot see. Trust him, love him, and they will all be good for you.” (John Piper, Desiring God) and remind me of who’s in control.
And so, the journey begins! Here’s to being homeowners, remodeling houses, and laughing when you want to cry!

Oh my goodness, what a nightmare! But you're so right in that y'all were being watched over for so many reasons; I can't wait to hear and see what God's journey is for y'all in this sweet house!

Oh Danielle, welcome to my world! Chuck went by our new house the other day and the well had frozen. Thank goodness it is outside but it flooded the field. He had to redo all the plumbing at the well and in the wellhouse. All those unexpected expenses!!! But, it will all work out. We start our major plumbing and electrical redo this weekend. We will see how it goes. I will keep tabs on your project, hopefully all will go better. I hope to keep our progress posted on facebook.

oh no! I'm so sorry! 🙁 We have had lots of water issues since moving into our first house a few months ago. No fun at all. But your thankful list is spot on! We've got to keep rejoicing amidst the trials! Praying for your home and your family right now. 🙂

Oh, I'm so sorry! Water is just the worse and can't get out of control so quickly. Hoping things are much, much better and this will soon only be a bad memory. :o)

Praying for you guys right now! my hubs is a fireman and he has seen a lot of frozen pipes this year, but the Lord always has a plan behind these things! "now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" hebrews 11:1

Most home insurance policies in our area have a cap on the amount they will pay for mold damage mitigation. It is understood that if you do not take immediate action to deal with water damage in your home it is no longer their responsibility to cover the subsequent damages due to neglect.
