someone asked me the other day how i find time to blog with a newbie in the house.
find time to blog you say? i have more time now to blog, it seems, than before our girl arrived. i wasn’t up for endless hours in the middle of the night before she made her appearance you know.
blogging found me a couple years ago, and we go through seasons, this little blog and i.
but i am oh so glad she found me.
the other night around 1 AM as i stumbled out of story’s room back into my bed when i realized i forgot to put nursing pads on. now, normally, this isn’t a problem for me. can someone say low milk supply? can someone say starving child? mkay. thanks. but, she had only nursed on one side and i thought i better slap one in my bra to prevent any leakage. TMI? you love TMI though, right?
well, gosh darnit. all the nursing pads were in her room and you know i wasn’t about to go back in there and risk waking her up. why do we have to have the loudest doors on our kids rooms? this is one of the most annoying things. ever. that, and the fact that a certain almost four year old WILL NOT blow his nose. he says he doesn’t know how, even though he did it for the first three years of his life. someone hold me.
anyway, back to my story. there were no other nursing pads in the whole house so i put a maxi pad in my bra. seriously. you should have seen it.
no, wait. you shouldn’t have.
but, really, where else would i write that story out, with hopes that someone, somewhere has put a maxi pad in their bra too, if not for this blog? i mean, c’mon.

this blog provides sanity, and an outlet, for a postpartum mama. do you know how bad i wish i had what i have here after my first two babies were born? a couple months after foster was born is when i typed my first little words here. click. click. click. and then there was no turning back. (another thing, i love that blogger now has a little write-back-to-comments thingβ¦which i am doing, and loving. and i’m sure it has a proper name but whatever. and i love twitter. please, let’s be twitter friends. you know you want to get my delusional 4 am tweets. don’t lie.)
over the past couple years i have read a lot of blog posts about blogging bringing people down. and that women reading other women’s blogs who display this picture perfect life only depresses them and makes them wish they had that. um. who’s blogs are ya reading, y’all!?!? cause that’s the opposite of what i get from blogging. the thing i love about it the most is the realness. the vulnerability. the relating that happens, and relationships that are formed, cause we don’t have it all together. none of us. no, not one.
i love this blog for many reasons but most of all i love it for who it’s brought into my life.
can i tell you something?
you all bless me out.
so here’s to you.
a little thank you.
it’s not much, i know.
but it’s true and real and sealed with love, from me to you.
now enough with all this sappy stuffβ¦
blog on! you bloggin’ fools.

ha, i just noticed my sister (brit) commented above.
when i ran out of nursing pads i use to cut a maxi pad in half and stick it in my bra. they are basically the same thing! when i quit nursing i walked around with burp clothes stuck in bra for 2 weeks while my milk dried up b/c i didn't want to buy more nursing pads. hot mom life π
danielle @ take heart
love the hot mom lifeβ¦holla!
Georgette
aww this was sweet and girl Im one of those mommas that completely RAN OUT of nursing pads and had no other choice than to get a maxi pad and stick that sucker on LOL! AND..i even cut it in the shape of a circle! yep no shame here π
danielle @ take heart
yes! and go you for cutting it to size, i just slapped that sucker in there! π
Emily
this is hilarious! i used a clean sock once (threw it away afterwards)
and you know how they say to put cold cabbage leaves on your boobs when they hurt?
Well….slept with those on almost every night all night…
surprised my hubby could even survive that level of sexiness…
Ha!
danielle @ take heart
haha! i love itβ¦ the things our husband's see and love us anyway! π
Becky
That was so sweet! Loved it! Thanks! : )
danielle @ take heart
thanks!

When Josiah was a newborn, I was a blog postin' machine! It's the easiest thing you can do while stuck in a chair nursing. Same when Chia was born. Now that the kids sleep through the night, I usually pass out on the couch by 8pm. Another baby would probably do my blog some good.
danielle @ take heart
you know i am voting YES on you getting pregnant again, woman!
Sarah
haha! you are hilarious and real and you help me to know that i am not crazy after all π I have used many random things like burp cloths, wash cloths, etc. a maxi pad would have been perfect though!
danielle @ take heart
haha! i love it! we are not alone, us crazies can stick together π
tiffany | monuments and melodies
ha!! I tend to stay away from the blogs that only show their lives as unicorn & rainbow farts!! I'm sitting here in the same clothes I wore yesterday, without a shower, 30+ lbs of preggo weight to lose, pumping breast milk while I watch Matt Lauer! It's real life, yo!
PS…I love your 4am tweets! And, I love your honesty π xo
danielle @ take heart
"unicorns & rainbow farts" love it. ha! and girl. you should SEE me right now⦠seriously. i love to able to walk through crazy newborn stage with you!!
tiffany | monuments and melodies
I'm SO glad I have you to share this newborn stage with, too!!!! Keeps a girl sane π
sara ericson

danielle @ take heart
you are so sweet π thank you! gotta laugh at ourselves π

hahahah. the things us moms will stick in our bras! cabbage, maxi pads, socks, and burp rags. the comments here were almost as good as your post…almost! i too, find that blogging helps me cope with motherhood…and i only have 30 followers!!! just having a place to get it all out is refreshing.
danielle @ take heart
so true! just to be able to type out our words helps so much π
Bekah
mmmhmmm mmmhmmmm preach on sister! Sometimes my blog interaction is the only adult interaction I have all day! And oh! how I crave that adult interaction! A girl can only make animal sounds for so long before her eyes bug out of her head!
danielle @ take heart
hahaha π
Bekah
and wait! how did you add the reply box? im having trouble doing it!
danielle @ take heart
i don't know how this happened on my blog! one day it was just there⦠sorry i am not more help!

You make me laugh! And you make me think. And though it is spring, your scarf from the scarfament is still making my neck warmer. You are a blessing and I appreciate you and your example of Mamahood.
danielle @ take heart
yay! and YOU are a blessing π and my pretty scarf from you, of course!
Amna

we too have very squeaky doors.
i am so proud of you.
i love blogging.
i get tired of all the work involved but DUH i am the one who signed up for a blog.

that's payment enuf.
danielle @ take heart
i love YOU blogging.
Nick
π you always make me smile.
and i have to ask…how do you do that reply thing on your blog?

Nick

kate
okay, ive done it..the Pad in the bra. I even cut it to resemble a nursing pad (sort of) and wore them out in public. Yup. I did.
Squeeky doors and floors in kids rooms- check.
Low milk supply with nursing my kids-check.
Blogging making ME feel a little more normal-check.
danielle @ take heart
um. i love you. check.
Emily
Your blog is always seriously such a refreshing read. I appreciate your candor all the time! I had my first baby 2 days after you (!) and I'm enjoying just chilling with my little one…and checking in with your blog. π

Having nursed six children, I can honestly say I've used everything that was readily available. No shame baby, no shame.
danielle @ take heart
that's right! π

Man I seriously love you. And though I cracked up at the maxi pad in lieu of the nursing pad ordeal I can totally relate on going to drastic measures of fixing a situation with what I have. All for the love of not waking babies or something in regards to them. Seriously HEARTYOURFACE!
danielle @ take heart
loveYOURface.
Jennifer
Just found your blow via the giveaway on Casey's blog. I must say I've only read one post but it's probably one of my favorite reads ever. I've got a newborn too and I can totally relate to everything you said and I adore that you used a maxipad as a nursin pad. I have the opposite problem as you. I leak milk constantly so I stuff fold up burp cloths in my nursin camis and bras an when I go out in public i have to stuff numerous nursing pads in my bra.
Hilarious stuff. Love your blog and your work!
danielle @ take heart
so glad to "meet" you!!
Anonymous
i just found your blog. you are so fun! can't wait to keep reading. btw that maxi pad thing was HILARIOUS!
danielle @ take heart
thank you!! so glad you're here π
Unknown
i chuckled when i read your title to this post. 99 problems is one of my favorite work-out songs…very clever twist my friend. very clever.
also amen to the low milk supply thing. i have been taking fenugreek for a couple weeks and drinking that nasty mothers milk tea. its not working. i'd say i have a good two weeks before it's completely gone. i'm very sad about it since this will most likely be my last baby. i am with you on the outlet of blogging. i'm so glad this is your outlet. i am often encouraged by your posts as we are in similar life stages so i would be sad if you weren't here!
xo
danielle @ take heart
i am so glad our paths crossed friend – thankful for you!
three measures
i just found your blog yesterday…
i was actually really frustrated with life and the lack of females embracing each other and encouraging each other in life. my husband and i are youth pastors and we see it in the teens all the time. and what's worse is that i can't really tell them that it gets better…because it may not. i have been longing for female friends who love, accept and embrace me for who i am and challenge me to be Christ. i literally stumbled on to your blog and i have been glued ever since! you are so full of joy and life and love that it has inspired me. i am reminded that in order to get change i must be change. thanks for your passion and hilarious-ness! you have ministered to my heart!
danielle @ take heart
tara jean, thank you so much for your kind words – they mean so much! so glad our paths have crossed in this little blog world. may the Lord be the light of your day today!! xoxo
