foster anderson was born on thursday november 19, 2009 @ 12:53 pm. 10 pounds 7 ounces 21 1/2 inches. wednesday evening i started to have cramping and contractions around midnight. i stayed up all night because the contractions never stopped. they were irregular and manageable so i wasn’t sure if this was the real deal. by 6 am they were still coming, so i woke caleb and called my midwife, who gave us the ok to come into the hospital. we left brody at home with my mom and told her we would probably be back in no time. caleb and i were hopeful our baby was coming but i really didn’t think so. only two contractions on the way to the hospital, we left all of our stuff in the car and up the stairs we went to the wonderful child birth center. much to our surprise i was 7 centimeters and we were not going anywhere anytime soon – yay! i labored in the tub for the majority of the morning and listened to some awesome praise and worship. around 12:40 my midwife broke my water (i was already fully dilated). my plan was to actually birth in the tub but as soon as my water broke i was intensely pushing that baby out. after only, praise jesus, 13 minutes of pushing, foster was here!
birth stories
a little different from his big brother brody’s birth.
which went something like this…
i laid down with high hopes of falling asleep around 11pm on a friday night. we had been out with friends in saratoga… walking, walking, walking… thinking we would induce labor. thanks j & j, it worked! 🙂 as soon as i laid down i felt the contraction sensation that, at the time, i had never felt anything like before. caleb timed them and they were exactly five minutes apart. the pain was intense and i already found myself swaying back and forth to focus on my movement rather than the pain. we packed up and brought my mom with us to the hospital and i continued to have contractions progressively closer together. when we got to the hospital i was 3 centimeters. at that time st.mary’s didn’t have the option of water birth and i labored using the birth ball, rocking chair and shower. when it came time to push i already felt like i was run over by a truck (little did i know the worst was yet to come). i pushed 2 and half hours before brody timothy was born. saturday april 19, 2008 @ 11:50 am. 10 pounds 12 ounces 22 inches. the birth was rough on both of us. the cord was around brody’s chest and the trauma of the hours of pushing left him very bruised. he needed respiratory therapy right away and didn’t take his first breath for quite some time. after monitoring his breathing for about an hour the nurses were able to bring my sweet baby back to me.
thankfully, recovery the 2nd time around is SO much easier!
