i love breaking out my new calendar late december every year and transferring all my birthdays, anniversaries, appointments, etc. i actually get kinda excited to do so. if you have not gotten the sweetest of calendars for 2011 yet, today is your day.

i’m excited to introduce you all to ashley and her shop against the grain|graphic.
i asked ashley to share a little bit about herself:
“Out of high school I accidentally found myself metalsmithing for a local phoenix jeweler and studying industrial design at ASU. When I graduated I was still working for the same jeweler and found myself far more interested in graphic and jewelry design than product design. I began teaching myself more advanced metalsmithing techniques through books and videos and also took a class at Mesa Center for the Arts. Before I even knew it I had started my own jewelry business and became a teacher at the same center that I was learning at. I found having my own business exciting not only because was I able to be a metalsmith (creating designs inspired by nature), but I was using my love for graphic design through creating my own business cards, artists cards, my website, etc… but that wasn’t enough. I then created against the grain. | graphic -making cards, calendars, bunting and a few new surprise items for 2011. I am so grateful that I can not only do what I love, but I can create things that other people find just as much excitement in.. and that makes all of the hard work and sleepless nights completely worth it.”
