This was one of my favorite days ever.
The humidity stopped for just a moment on July 17. My kids wore something other than swimsuits and superhero underwear for the occasion. We made it to Albany and found parking right in front of the court house thanks to a tip from my photographer and friend. I pretty much take my girlfriend, Nancy, with me to all my life events. As I should (re: see below). She took these pictures of a day that we will never forget, and always celebrate.
Abe was beaming on this fine Thursday. So was I. We all were.

My kids were well behaved in the court house apparently.
The hearing was short as we had all of our paper work done and the judge was just confirming it all. It was even more emotional than I imagined. It was a surreal moment, having my family and friends behind us and supporting us, Abe’s precious birth mom’s attorney was there, speaking on her behalf and said how happy she was with this decision. Our agency said how they had been waiting for this day for so long and how thrilled they were. Everyone was coming together for our boy and it made my heart burst.
After reviewing everything that we basically shouted YES! at on our legal paperwork, she asked us questions much like a wedding ceremony. If we would love Abram as our own child, protecting him, cherishing him, nurturing him forever. Tears rolled down my face as I nodded over and over again, yes. We do, we do, we do. We already do.
At the end of the hearing a woman stood up and asked me a question. She said she had her class of law students in the court room to observe this case, she said that this was the happiest case they had seen, having normally seen so much brokenness in family court. She asked if she could take a picture of the students with us. We of course said yes, and Abe starred at all of them while their professor tried to get his attention for the camera. It was a special moment. Several passerby-ers (is that a word?) told us we were the happiest group they had ever seen in court.
We have so much to celebrate, I told them.
i mean maybe i'm crying.

Love this. Showing joy is the best way of showing Jesus. But then, so is adoption. Of course the two go together. (Oh, and it's 'passersby' ;).)
This is so wonderful! The judge said the same thing when we were adopting my nieces and nephews (a sibling set of three!) They rarely get to see the beautiful, hopeful, encouraging stories with wonderful families and happy tears!
